Crypto payments year in review — Decaf

The Decaf team has had an incredible year. In just nine short months, we have developed and launched two products that are already making a significant impact in the world of crypto and blockchain technology.

We began developing the Decaf Wallet and Decaf Point of Sales in March. Our goal was to create products that would make it easy for everyday people to access and use crypto for real-world payments, and sending money abroad.

Fast forward to the end of 2022, and we are proud to say that our products are live and being used by thousands of people around the world.

Our Products — Decaf Wallet and Decaf Pay (PoS)

The Decaf Wallet is an easy-to-use, mobile-first wallet that allows users to set up an account instantly, send and receive stablecoins, and exchange their stablecoins for local currency (and cash). The wallet is designed for everyday people and real-life utility.

Our Point of Sales (PoS) system, Decaf Pay, allows businesses to accept digital assets like crypto as a form of payment from their customers. This is particularly useful for merchants in Latin America and emerging markets, where crypto adoption is the highest in the world. Anyone can set up in minutes. It is non-custodial, so users have control of their own funds.

In addition to our products, we have also made some exciting partnerships and announcements this year.

Partnerships this year

In February, we started the company in HF0 incubator in Miami, with the goal of being able to spend crypto and turn every cornerstore, restaurant and café into a crypto-to-cash exchange.

In April, we launched our Mobile Ordering Crypto payments solution at the Solana Hacker House and Bitcoin Miami. Users could pay with USDC or Bitcoin.

In May, we used Point of Sales and the first version of our wallet to allow attendees at the Sunset Monaco Event in Miami to purchase drinks with USDC. We had 72 purchases in crypto worth over $1000.

In July, we partnered with Solana Spaces to power their Solana Pay transactions at their NYC, and Miami locations. The store was a huge success, selling around $200,000, and 80% in USDC this year.

Year-end review from Solana Spaces

In August, despite the crash of Terra Luna and the markets, we were able to secure investment from aligned investors and received a grant from Solana, who are all joining the mission for greater financial inclusion with blockchain.

In November, we helped launch the Spaces pop-up store in Lisbon, Portugal. We also announced our partnership with SpacesDAO, which will see DecafPay powering their global franchise of Solana Spaces retail stores. This will allow us to expand our reach and bring crypto payments to even more people around the world. Over 200 people have already submitted applications to build their own Store. Including our team, to build one in Mexico City — focused on payments and remittances.

In December, we announced that within the Decaf Wallet, our partnership with Etherfuse will allow us to provide accessible investment products to generate yield for our users. There will be “one-click” yield options from validator nodes, stablecoin loans, and Mexican-Government-backed debt assets.

This month we also formalized our partnership with MoneyGram and Stellar Blockchain to offer USDC to Cash in over 400k locations and 197 countries. Truly disrupting remittances via blockchain, and furthering our goal of turning every corner store, restaurant and café into a cash-to-crypto exchange.

All in all, it has been a fantastic year for the Decaf team. We are excited to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible with crypto and blockchain technology in the coming year.
